VDM: How EFCC invited me over Naira sprayed at my daughter’s wedding- Iyabo Ojo

Nigerian actress, Iyabo Ojo has revealed how she was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the spraying of money at her daughter’s wedding.

Ojo shared that she visited the EFCC office on May 5, 2025, after returning from the UK, to respond to the invitation.

She explained that the EFCC showed her videos from the wedding where guests, including her friends and colleagues, were spraying both naira and foreign currencies.

During the visit, she was asked about her personal details, career, and businesses.

Ojo said she thought only damaging or defacing the naira was illegal but learned from EFCC officials that spraying money, even dollars, is also not allowed under Nigerian law.

After answering all their questions, Ojo was allowed to leave the same day, while her lawyer, O.I. Salami, stayed ready to represent her if more questions come up later.

She mentioned receiving many calls and messages from concerned people after the news of the EFCC invitation spread online.

Ojo has now urged Nigerians to avoid spraying money at parties, saying it might be time to reconsider this long-standing tradition to avoid running into trouble with the authorities.

“The EFCC officials showed me videos extracted from my daughter’s wedding where guests, including colleagues and friends, were spraying Naira and foreign currencies.

“I was asked if I knew this was illegal, and I explained that I thought only abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence.

“The EFCC officials clarified that spraying money, including on people’s bodies, is prohibited. I was surprised to learn that spraying any currency, including Dollars, is also not allowed.

“After questioning, I was allowed to leave the same day, but my personal lawyer, O.I. Salami, stood in for me as I may be called upon again.

“Given this experience, I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria to avoid issues with the EFCC”, she wrote.
