The Nigeria National League (NNL) as sanctioned Kebbi United and First Bank FC for breaching league regulations, deducting three points and three goals from Kebbi United for fielding an ineligible player and fining both clubs N1 million each.
The league’s Disciplinary Committee handed down the punishments following investigations into separate incidents during recent fixtures in the 2025-2026 season. Kebbi United’s violation occurred in their match against Yobe Desert Stars of Damaturu.
Kebbi United fielded an ineligible player, Dawud Ibrahim, during the fixture. The club also received a N1 million fine in addition to the points and goals deduction.
NNL Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Danlami Alanana, condemned the match commissioner for that game, Buhari Yahaya, describing his conduct as unprofessional. Officials failed to report the use of an unlicensed player, which triggered the eligibility clause.
“We frown at situations where the match official does not report incidents featuring an unlicensed player, which provokes the eligibility clause,” Alanana said.

First Bank FC received a separate N1 million fine over supporters’ misconduct. Fans invaded the dressing room and intimidated match officials during one of their fixtures.
The Lagos-based club must now produce the four individuals involved in the incident. The NNL warned that failure to identify the offenders would result in further sanctions.
The league also issued a warning to First Bank and the Lagos State Football Association. Both bodies must ensure adequate security at all future matches.
Both clubs retain the right to appeal the decisions. They may lodge formal complaints with the Nigeria Football Federation if they wish to contest the sanctions.
The double punishment shows the NNL’s determination to enforce its regulations strictly. Player eligibility and crowd control remain priority areas for the league’s disciplinary apparatus.
