President Bola Tinubu has assured that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will continue to undergo a strategic urban transformation to properly reflect Nigeria’s growing population, national identity, and economic aspirations.
The President made the declaration on Wednesday, during the commissioning of the full-scope development of Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way), which links the Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape District of Abuja.
Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, he emphasised that infrastructure-led development remains the cornerstone of his administration’s economic blueprint.

He noted that enhanced transport connectivity would directly lower logistics costs, stimulate fresh corporate investments, and generate employment.
Tinubu described robust infrastructure as the ultimate benchmark of national seriousness and state capacity, asserting that a nation’s capital cannot drive regional ambitions if its primary transport corridors are choked by neglect.

Reflecting on the N5 corridor, the President revealed that the project was entirely conceived, financed, and completed by his administration.
It was contracted to construction firm Julius Berger with a strict 15-month completion timeline following its flag-off in October 2024.
He pointed out that the successful delivery of this project marks a decisive break from past governance traditions where critical public infrastructure remained trapped in multi-year budgetary cycles and endless excuses.
“Infrastructure is the measure by which every civilised nation announces its seriousness. No capital can carry the weight of national ambition if its arteries are blocked by neglect, excuses and abandoned promises,” the President stated.
“There has been no break, no pause and no retreat in the construction and rehabilitation of the roads we inherited. That is why we have ended the tradition of abandoned projects and restored faith in the power of government to finish what it starts.”
Unlocking local economic corridors
The presidency noted that the Life Camp Junction had long served as a severe traffic bottleneck, inflicting heavy economic tolls on commuters and local businesses through lost productivity.

With the completion of the N5 corridor, the FCT Administration has successfully actualised the seamless district connectivity originally mapped out in the Abuja Master Plan.
The newly completed asset establishes faster transit channels across Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa I, Kado, Idu, and Mbora, while simultaneously boosting logistical access to the critical Idu Industrial District.
Tinubu commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his relentless execution drive, praising him for showing what happens when firm political will meets institutional accountability.
The President, however, warned that maintaining high-grade public infrastructure is a shared responsibility between the government and the populace.

He called on individual residents and corporate beneficiaries to step up their compliance with tax obligations and land-related payments to expand the FCT’s internal revenue capacity for future projects.
Furthermore, he urged traditional rulers and community stakeholders to actively safeguard the newly commissioned transport corridor against vandalism.
Earlier in the event, Wike expressed gratitude for the presidency’s continuous backing, stating that the rapid pace of development in the FCT’s satellite towns serves as the most visible evidence of the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The infrastructure commissioning was attended by the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmud, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA), Richard Dauda, alongside several federal lawmakers and top-tier administrative chiefs.
