Headies Award: Asake becomes debutant with most nominations


Nigerian recording artiste, Asake received a total of eight nominations, becoming the most nominated debutant at the Headies award nominations.

Asake had a remarkable 2022; his debut studio album, Mr Money With The Vibe catapulted him into mainstream prominence, unravelling numerous singles that peaked across music streaming platforms for several weeks.

Interestingly, the singer-songwriter who is signed to Olamide’s Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) record label performed at the 2022 Headies Award ceremony, however, he didn’t receive any nomination.

Coming off a tremendous debut year, Asake will be making history as the first artiste to be nominated in both the ā€œNext Ratedā€ and ā€œBest Male Artiste of The Yearā€ simultaneously.

His other nominations include: Song of The Year (ā€œSungbaā€ Remix ft. Burna Boy), Digital Artiste of The Year, Best Collaboration (ā€œBandanaā€ with Fireboy DML), Album of The Year (ā€œMr Money With The Vibeā€), Best Street-Hop Artiste (ā€œJohaā€), and Headies Viewerā€™s Choice (ā€œSungbaā€ Remix ft. Burna Boy).

Asake (8) is also the artiste with the most nominations at the 16th Headies behind Burna Boy (11).

Reacting to the feat via his Twitter handle, Asake wrote, ā€œThank you @The_Headies for the nominations. This means a lot to me.ā€

Since his mainstream debut in 2022, Asake has continued to release numerous smash hits, including two impressive albums, Mr Money With The Vibe (2022) and his most recent, Work of Art (2023).
