The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the emergence of a new terror group, known as “Lukarawas,” operating in the northwestern Nigerian states of Sokoto and Kebbi.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, reported that this group has intensified insecurity in the region.
However, he assured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are actively working to contain the threat.

“They began incursion into the Northern part of Nigeria, mainly Sokoto and Kebbi states, and like I mentioned, they came in from Niger and Mali axis.”
According to General Buba, the Lukarawas group arose following political instability in Mali and the Republic of Niger, which disrupted military cooperation between Nigeria and Niger.
In addition, the military announced that nine terrorists have been declared wanted due to their involvement in the country’s security challenges.
