Following a high-profile security breach at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Benin City, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a heartfelt message of gratitude and a call for renewed political character across Nigeria.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, saw the convoy of Obi and other prominent leaders come under attack by armed individuals.
Despite the violence, Obi expressed profound appreciation for the global outpouring of solidarity that followed the event.
In a statement posted on his X page on Wednesday, Obi extended his thanks to supporters worldwide for their prayers and calls.
He highlighted his concern for the families of distinguished elder statesmen who were present during the incident.

Obi noted that the support received during this “difficult time” has strengthened his faith in a collective hope for the nation and renewed his resolve to serve.
Reflecting on the lawlessness, Obi drew parallels to his earlier political career, noting that the insecurity in Anambra State was what originally fueled his determination to seek the governorship.
He emphasised that the core duty of leadership is to restore public trust and security.
Quoting the philosopher Plato, Obi warned against political apathy: “The price good people pay for refusing to participate in government is to live under the rule of bad people.”
Obi urged citizens to prioritise leaders defined by four key pillars: competence, commitment, character and compassion.
He noted that with courage, Nigerians can build a prosperous and secure nation.
