Seun Kuti, Nigerian singer turns self in days after assaulting police officer in Lagos

On Saturday, May 13, controversial Nigerian musician, Seun Kuti was seen on camera physically assaulting a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos state.

The news platform, Linda Ikeji’s Blog on Monday gathered that Seun Kuti, the son of legendary Afrobeat connoisseur, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has turned himself in to the police.

According to reports gathered, the multi-instrumentalist alongside his lawyer and a family representative are currently at the Lagos state police command headquarters.

It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, ordered for his arrest on Saturday, May 13, after a video of him assaulting a police officer went viral.

The police visited his house on Sunday morning to pick him up but met his absence. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, on Sunday, revealed he was Seun’s counsel and stated that the singer will turn himself in on Monday.

Seun is currently being interrogated by the police over the incident.

Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, popularly known Seun Kuti, is a Nigerian musician, singer and the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Seun leads his father’s former band Egypt 80.
