In a move aimed at enhancing transparency, encouraging compliance, and boosting infrastructure funding, the Lagos State government has announced plans to publish the names of individuals and organizations that have defaulted on the payment of the Land Use Charge (LUC).
The initiative, to be carried out through the Ministry of Finance, is per the provisions of the Land Use Charge Law of 2020.
Speaking on the development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Tajudeen Mahmud, stated that the decision follows concerted efforts by the government to serve property owners with their annual LUC bills.
While many residents have complied with their obligations, a significant number, he said, have continued to neglect payment despite repeated notices.

Mahmud disclosed that the publication of defaulters’ names, scheduled to begin in April 2025, would precede further enforcement measures, including the initiation of receivership processes as allowed by law.
“The Land Use Charge is a crucial source of funding for public infrastructure and service delivery. Full compliance ensures that the government can continue to meet the growing needs of the state,” he said.
He urged all property owners to verify their payment status and settle any outstanding liabilities to avoid being publicly listed.
Residents seeking clarification or assistance have been advised to visit the Land Use Charge Contact Centre at the Ministry of Finance, Block 12, Secretariat, Alausa-Ikeja.
