Niyi Akinmolayan addresses Nigerian movie producers amid Netflix’s departure from the country

Nigerian movie director, Niyi Akinmolayan has sent a message to his fellow cinematographers in the entertainment industry amid ongoing speculations that the movies streaming platform, Netflix would be exiting Nigeria.

Joining the burgeoning list of moviemakers who are reacting to the recent development, Niyi shared some words of advice for his colleagues.

It would be recalled moviemakers claimed that Netflix ended all collaborations with Nigerian filmmakers and left the country in November 2024.

Reacting, Niyi urged filmmakers to ignore the noise and keep making movies so that when another movie streaming giant comes into Nigeria, they will be ready.

Read his statement below:

“My final take on this. Ignore the noise,”

He continued, “Make films and take risks. When the streamers came, they worked with people who were already making films not people who claimed they could make films.”

In conclusion, he wrote, “If you are a filmmaker, make films. Be patient.”
