La Roja’s breathtaking performance has been highlighted by the brightness and creativity of young wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams. Both players leave fans on the edge of their seats whenever they have the ball.
Their attacking prowess alongside Pedri’s commanding displays and Alvaro Morata’s leadership is a reason why they are among the favourites.
Can Germany win a major tournament this time around?
For the first time in eight years, Germany is enjoying their best international tournament. This is true resurgence for the country after suffering a shocking group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side are now fixated on winning their first major title in a decade. Germany last won a major trophy in 2014 – the FIFA World Cup.
Young star, Jamal Musiala, is currently tied as the top-scorer at Euro 2024 with three goals. Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Füllkrug follows closely behind with two.
However, Julian Nagelsmann’s squad faces a formidable challenge. They have not won against Spain in a major tournament since Euro 1988, a 36-year drought they hope to end on Friday.
“It will definitely be a match of equals,” says Germany captain İlkay Gündoğan. The FC Barcelona player will trade tackles with teammate Lamine Yamal in midfield. He will also have to face Rodri, a former club-mate at Manchester City.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann while speaking ahead of the game said: “It’s not a final, it’s a quarter-final. We want to be one of the teams in the semi-final.
“Spain want to be champions as well, so it’ll be a tough game. Both teams are good in possession, have good counter-pressing qualities and can put their opponents under pressure.”
This is simply an unmissable match. Will La Roja halt Germany and continue what many pundits believe can be a surge to their fourth title?
The Spanish side is blessed with an abundance of confidence, talent, quality, and attitude. Interestingly, their destructors-in-chief – Yamal, Nico Williams, and Pedri are already playing at such a high level.
