I am a child compared to Michael Jackson – Akon recalls working with late pop icon

Senegalese-American singer Akon has reflected on his experience working with the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, describing it as a defining moment in his career.

Speaking on a recent episode of the We Need To Talk podcast, Akon said his collaboration with Michael Jackson remains the โ€œproudest momentโ€ of his professional journey.

The โ€˜Oh Africaโ€™ singer also noted that, despite his own global fame, he still sees himself as far below the late pop star in stature and influence.

โ€œMy photo with Michael Jackson is my most proudest photo. I was already a full blown celebrity at the point the photo was taken. But I am a child compared to this man (Michael Jackson).

โ€œI was so happy because I grew up looking up to him. He is like everybodyโ€™s Idol,โ€ he said.

Akon, who is 53, also used the interview to highlight his long-standing support for African music. He revealed that he once helped sign Nigerian Afrobeats artists such as P-Square and Wizkid.

He, however, clarified that Wizkid was not directly signed by him, but came through his involvement in Banky Wโ€™s Empire Mate Entertainment, the label that originally managed the singer.

โ€œNigerians are the most intelligent people on the planet. They have done amazingly well with Afrobeats,โ€ he added.
